So, I was driving my 2006 Ford Ranger with the 3.0L V6 engine today, and out of nowhere, the oil light started flashing. Naturally, I pulled over and checked the oil level, but everything looked fine—not low, not overfilled, just right where it should be. But that flashing light is still there, and now I’m a bit nervous.
Could this be a sensor issue? I’ve read that sometimes the oil pressure sensor can go bad and give false warnings, but I really don’t want to ignore it if it’s something more serious. Worst-case scenario, I’m worried it could mean low oil pressure, which could be a sign of something like a failing oil pump or a clogged oil filter.
Has anyone else run into this before? Should I be looking into replacing the sensor, or could this be a sign that my oil pressure really is dropping? I haven’t noticed any weird noises like knocking or ticking, but I also don’t want to risk engine damage. Let me know if you’ve had a similar issue or if there’s a quick check I can do before taking it to a mechanic. Any advice would help before I start to panic!
