Title: Ford Ranger Apple CarPlay: How to Connect & Sync Apps
Threaded Mode
#1
People prefer to experience the convenience of using their Apple devices in their vehicles. The newer generations of Ford Ranger support Apple CarPlay, enabling drivers to access their favorite apps - such as iTunes, Google Maps and Spotify - through the car’s touchscreen. And if that wasn’t enough, drivers can make phone calls, send messages, or get directions by voice commands using Siri.

To connect Apple CarPlay to Ford Ranger, follow this step-by-step guide.

1. Check for CarPlay Compatibility with Ford Ranger

To access Apple CarPlay on your Ford Ranger, ensure that it has the requisite hardware components installed. Depending on which year and trim of your car, these components may differ; yet they are necessary for CarPlay integration.

If you're not sure whether your Ford Ranger has the necessary hardware components to support CarPlay, you can consult your vehicle's owner manual.

First of all, you'll need an infotainment display (touchscreen or non-touchscreen), a USB port that supports the CarPlay protocol, and a processor with the necessary performance requirements.

If wireless CarPlay is available, you'll also require a compatible wireless charging pad for your iPhone.

2. Access CarPlay on iPhone

To use CarPlay on a Ford Ranger, you'll need an iPhone 5 or newer running iOS 7.1 or higher. Make sure CarPlay and Siri are enabled under Settings, as well as the "Press Home for Siri" option in the Siri & Search setting. You may also need to enable both CarPlay and Siri & Search in Content & Privacy Restrictions under Settings > Screen Time.

3. Access CarPlay on Ford Ranger

To use Apple CarPlay in your vehicle's infotainment system, you will first need to enable it in the settings. Depending on your model of car and make, this could look different. Typically, you can find the option to enable CarPlay buried deep within the settings of your vehicle's infotainment center. Take some time to explore the options available, and don't be afraid to ask for help from a salesperson if needed; most vehicles should have information about how to enable CarPlay via their website or manual.

4. Connect Ford Ranger to iPhone

Once your Apple CarPlay is enabled in your vehicle's infotainment system, you'll need to connect your iPhone to the car's USB port physically.

The best way to do this is with an Apple-authorized lightning cable; this will ensure a secure connection and quick charging for your phone.

After making the connection, turn on your vehicle and you should be able to start using Apple CarPlay immediately.

5. Select your Ford Ranger from the List

When you first launch Apple CarPlay, you will be presented with a selection of available car makes and models. Choose the one that corresponds to your vehicle, then follow the prompts on the screen to complete the setup process.

Depending on your Ford Ranger infotainment system, other options, such as customizing your home screen or configuring different settings, may also be available. Take advantage of these features to make sure you'll get the most out of your Apple CarPlay experience.

Wait for the CarPlay home screen to show up on your car's display. And you are done!

Common Ford Ranger CarPlay Issues

If you run into any trouble connecting CarPlay to your Ford Ranger, refer to the manual that came with your car or reach out to Ford's helpful customer support team. However, some common issues are quite easy to deal with. Possible reasons why Apple CarPlay won't work on Ford Ranger have either hardware or software related:

1. Damaged USB-cable

If the USB cable you use to connect the Ford Ranger infotainment system to your iPhone is physically damaged, it might not work and cause disruption to your CarPlay connection. Unfortunately, wireless connection is not an option for some older models, so the only way to fix this is by getting another functional cable.

Regularly checking cables for any visible signs of damage can help prevent such issues from occurring in the first place.

A similar issue may occur if you use an aftermarket cable. Preferably, an original Apple-brand cable should be used as it has been determined to provide the best connection.

2. Incompatible USB Port

It might not be obvious, but the connected USB port you chose might not support CarPlay. If you are experiencing difficulty, try using other ports or checking the manual for more information. You may find that your device is incompatible with CarPlay, which could explain why it does not seem to be working properly.

3. Incompatible infotainment

Sadly, some older years or trim levels of Ford Ranger are not equipped with appropriate equipment. If the infotainment system is not compatible with Apple CarPlay, consider using something else or upgrading the infotainment to a more recent option.

4. Software malfunction

Glitches happen. Your Ford Ranger may support Apple CarPlay but for some reason fail to do so. The easiest fix is to reset the system and see if it helps. In general, resetting the Ranger's infotainment system to its factory settings has proven to be an effective way to solve this issue and get your infotainment running properly again. But is the result is similar, keep troubleshooting or contact a specialist.

5. Disabled CarPlay

Before connecting your iPhone to your Ford Ranger infotainment system, it is important to make sure that CarPlay is enabled on both devices. This helps ensure that the connection will work correctly and you can access all features of the infotainment system. Enabling CarPlay on both devices is the first step before attempting to connect them and should be done before anything else.

What Ranger models are compatible with Apple CarPlay?

Starting from 2019 Ford Ranger vehicles come equipped with Apple CarPlay feature.

Some Ford Ranger models may have wireless connectivity to Apple CarPlay by default, while others may not. The availability of wireless CarPlay connectivity depends mostly on the year, but sometimes it also relies on the trim levels and hardware specifications of your Ford Ranger.

Instead of having to mess around with a lightning cable, wireless CarPlay allows you to connect your iPhone and car's infotainment system effortlessly. Simply place the phone on the car's convenient wireless charging pad and watch as they seamlessly integrate together in an instant.

If your Ford Ranger does not offer wireless CarPlay connectivity, you will need to connect your iPhone using a lightning cable - as specified in my previous response.

When driving your Ford Ranger with wireless CarPlay, you may still need to plug in a lightning cable if the battery is low or you wish to update the software on your iPhone. It's something worth bearing in mind when using this technology.

Apps Available via Apple Carplay in Ford Ranger

CarPlay on Ford Ranger infotainment systems is a great way to use your iPhone apps in the car but it does come with some limitations. While many apps are compatible, others like iMessage and WhatsApp can only be used via Siri and you won't have access to message history or the ability to view messages.

Compatible apps include: Music, Phone, News, Podcasts, Audio books, Audible, Google Maps, Sygic TomTomGO, Whatsapp, calendar, Settings, Telegram, Waze, Spotify, TuneIn, Tidal, Pandora, Youtube Music and Amazon Music.

Can You Use Siri on Ford Ranger?

Yes, with CarPlay on your Ford Ranger, you have access to Siri - the personal assistant that can help make tasks in your car easier. To use Siri, simply press and hold the Talk button on the steering wheel until you hear a beep or tone indicating that Siri is ready to help.

Alternatively, you can also access Siri by holding down the bottom left button in the CarPlay app. It's easy to use and will make using your Ranger even more enjoyable.
